San Silvestro Church

The Church of San Silvestro lends its name to the square where this beautiful church is located. The Church also known as ‘in capite’ boasts the head of Saint John the Baptist as a relic. The Basilica is administered by the priests and brothers of the Irish Province of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate- The Pallottines.The Basilica of San Silvestro in Capite is situated in Piazza San Silvestro next to the Central Post Office, in the very heart of Rome close to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The Via Del Corso and the Via Del Tritone are the principal streets closest to the basilica.

Couples are required to comply with all regulations concerning marriage in the diocese where you reside before we can accept your request to marry here.

When choosing the clothing which you or your witnesses will wear during the wedding ceremony, you should bear in mind that you are expected to dress modestly.Dresses, which are loe cut at the front and the back are not considered appropriate. Guests who are travelling with you should also be informed of this requirement.Italans dress conseratively in church. The golden rule is ‘When in Rome do as the Romans do’. Please show all due respect for Church regulation in this matter. Guests who dress inappropriately will be asked to wear a light wrap before entering the Church.
